Oh Happy Day!

I have opened my online scrap store at etsy.com!

So far I have listed all of the card kits that did not sell at my last craft fair. I will also be posting soon some finished cards for sale. Stop by and check it out if you like - or wish me luck in my new online storefront! I hope that this works out well. :)

Glitter Fruit!

x-posted to blogspot :)

It all started the other day when I got a real hankerin' for some of those sugary fruit jelly candies that you can only buy in the candy shop. Don't those sound good???

I also just got the cutest new pad of paper - it's the "Sweet" stack by DCWV and it has a ton of cute papers including these adorable glittery fruity ones.

Then I found some plain chipboard circles - about an inch and a half in diameter. It all went downhill from there :)

I came home and got into my hubby's acrylic paints - he has this whole shoebox full of paints from back in the day when we used to paint those little pewter Dungeons & Dragons and Mechwarrior figurines. (Don't judge me, ok?) So I used BILE GREEN and HOBGOBLIN ORANGE and MANE YELLOW. . . I did save DRAGON SCALE RED and PALADIN BLUE for another day. I am sure that I will find use for them!

I painted the little chipboard circles and used a white Galaxy Marker to make the rinds and the sections. Then I topped them off with some yellow, orange and green sugar glitter - they turned out all sugary and yummy looking - good enough to eat!

Not bad for a weekend's work - we did have to skip the first four-wheeling adventure of the year due to bad weather. But we enjoyed a lovely evening of BBQ and card playing, in four inches of fresh fallen snow tonight! Hooray for spring break!

March: Card Day

The last couple of days has been an absolutely miserable mixture of wind, snow, rain, hail, thunder, lightening and mud. . . bleah. How happy I was that today is card day!

It was my turn to host this month. Rico helped me to get the craft corner ready yesterday. We made our March cards and had some yummy turkey and cranberry sandwiches for lunch. :)

About 20 minutes before the ladies showed up, B.S. the cat brought me a nice live mouse into the kitchen. How sweet! Well better 20 minutes before and not after!  How is it possible, that cats seem to know when it is an important time for you, and they try to do something special. Awesome.

Here is a pic of the takings. . .

I think it's really funny how many turtles there are :) They are on two of the baby cards and Steph made them on the birthday cards too. They turned out adorable! The two "Bundle of Joy" baby cards were fun because they have those cute tiny safety pins holding the tiny paper diapers on. Mine is the one in the middle left with the hibiscus flower. It's good for spring or birthday or whatever. :)

I am definitely in need of some narrowing down. I have been trying to keep up with all of my myspace, facebook, livejournal, and blogspot pages. I just don't have the time to keep it all going. I am pretty sure that my myspace will be the first to get nerfed. I love blogspot for the connections that I have there, and the same for facebook, which has all of my locals. But I just can't see myself doing without my livejournal, which has been around for years now. Hmm, what to do. . . what to do. . .

Full of FAIL

Crossposted to my Blogspot

I have been secretly watching this show on TV called Scrapbook Memories, or something like that. It's a PBS show, but they show it on the BYU channel every day at noon. Don't judge me. Ok? Anyway, the show features these pretty neat people from scrapbook supply companies - and they always have the latest and coolest scrapbooking techniques and tools. Most of it is pretty interesting. Anyway. One of the things that I keep seeing on the show are these lovely little Souffle pens - they are supposed to have 3-D opaque ink and I have seen them used on metal, acrylic, paper, and lots of other things and they looked pretty danged cool. I decided that these would be my next "save up" item because. . . they cost $19.99 for this pack of ten. HOLY SCRAP.

So I wasn't so keen on spending twenty bucks on pens, but I decided that I really wanted them, so I got a paper and used the %50 off one item coupon and on Monday I trotted down to Robert's and purchased my long awaited Cool New Thing. I was so excited!!!11! Now this is the part where I really need to get into using my video camera, because I think that it would be really cool to make my own show about scrapbooking techniques. But on each epsiode, there will be a segment that is really useful to people, because it will be called, "This Scrap Doesn't Work!" Srsly. Learn from my mistakes here, people.

The pens are actually pretty cool. The colors are vibrant and bold and they will be great for journaling and yes, they DO work on surfaces like metal and plastic and acrylic and cell phones. Ahem.

It is my technique here, that failed, and I would like to show that with you today, viewers, so you do not mess Scrap up like I did.

I thought it would be fun to use these bright neon-ish colors on some black paper, and make some black and white and bold colored cards for spring. Something fun and pretty and different. So I cut a piece of black cardstock, and found an old template and went to work.

I taped the template down to the paper and started coloring with my beloved Cool New Thing Souffle pens. The colors are actually really pretty. . .

I noticed right away that the ink - when it first comes out of the pen, is kind of runny. It also takes a little bit to dry. At first, you color with it, and then you go hmm, that doesn't look quite right. But after it dries for a little bit, the color really starts to show up and pop - kind of like those galaxy markers. I did wait for the ink to dry - and I reapplied another coat of ink, to make these butterflies and flowers really stand out. I was so excited, I started searching my patterned paper for cool things to use on the cards.

I waited for the ink to dry really well - and then I lifted an edge of the template to see how things turned out. Well, I TRIED to lift an edge of the template. What I found, was that the template was completely stuck to the paper. At first I thought it was just around the edges where the ink was, but no. After prying and lifting up gently, this is what I found under the template.

The colors ran together underneath the template. The paper stuck to the template and ripped up in some places - the ink - which starts out pretty runny at first, got underneath all of the template, and was even so wet, that it kind of warped the cardstock. Worst of all, I used up quite a bit of ink from my awesome New Thing Souffle pens. I almost cried when I saw these results. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME, PEOPLE.

So, my scrapping blog can't all be about things that turn out to be pretty or fun or cute. Some days, you have to mix in a little bit of ugly to give it balance. I think that I did an awesome job of that here. In fact, I was thinking of saving this page of scrapped-up template ink flowers and butterflies, so that I can make a scrapbook page called FAIL. Sweet!!!

Sweet! Videos!

Remember when Dr. Taylor gave us that sweet little video maker for Christmas? Well I just started fiddling around with it tonight and I was messing around with the movie-making program - you can edit and cut and add music and all sorts of fun stuff. I am just getting started with it, but it's a ton of fun. I think that this effort is not bad for a first try. :)

Quiet

I guess I just realized that I have been lurking for quite a while - I'm on my days off again until Thursday and have realized that I have become increasingly greedy about my down time. I haven't been up to anything, really. . . just hanging out at home. We just had the nicest weekend punctuated by a big superbowl dinner - Uncle Kevin joined us for most of the game and Rico's mom even stopped by for a little bit. Both of the boys were here all weekend and they had a lot of fun playing and eating and eating and playing and eating. . . lol

AJ hasn't been feeling well today. . . I don't know if he has a little bit of tummy flu or if it is the result of eating an entire crock pot full of mini-sausages last night. I suspect the latter.  He has been growing like a weed too. I can't find any pants that fit him. I bought him new ones the other day and got them home only to find out that they DON'T FIT. He is wearing a size 14. . . omg. . . and is only 9 1/2.  Some days I feel like I just can't keep up.

I got my [info]get_a_journal  pages off in time today . . . should have mailed them Saturday but I missed the mailman by being just plain lazy.

Tomorrow, I will post pics of the thingies I have been working on. . . it's all storage for my scrap area. I am so excited. :)

Can I just say this. . . I am tired of winter and I can't wait for a nice warm spring day so that I can open all of the windows and let the air in and clean the house with the sun shining in . . . we have still been living in the sub-zero weather and all of the ice is starting to really get on my nerves. . . I have decided that maybe the best thing I could do would be to go buy a tanning package so that I can get a little bit of (fake) sun. . . maybe that will cheer me up a little or at least, thaw me out.

January - Card Day

Card Day at Stephanie's house turned out great - here is a quick pic of the takings. . . it works like this - everyone brings a card that they made and enough kits for everyone to make one of the same card. So you come home with tons of different cards all designed by different people. The theme for January was "Thanks" and "Valentines" and they are all so fun and cute. . . it was a great day. . .

That is all for today, I have a lot of organizing and stuff to get done and have to go back to work tonight, tomorrow and thursday and in the midst of all that I have to recert. for my CPR card too. . .

It is ten below zero here and snowing and the kids in town still have school. I am annoyed.

Oh boy! Or girl!

Last week's random neurological head injury asshattery gave me the opportunity to do some 1:1 time with a comatose patient. Let me tell you, nothing is longer than a 12 hour night shift when you have nothing to do but sit at the bedside and watch someone sleep.

In between cares for this lovely fellow, I was able to do some sketch plans and designing of some new cards inspired by that favorite new paper of mine by Imaginisce. I love their stuff. LOVE IT.

It seems there is something in the water as of late and we have several adorable roly-poly little preggo momma's waddling around the surg unit in the last weeks of their pregnancy - so cute! One of them doesn't know if she is having a boy or a girl yet. So rare that is - it seems like everybody always has the ultrasound ahead of time to find out. I do love suprises!

And so, here are a few to add to the stash, two of each in fact, so that I will be well prepared! The papers and chipboard stickers are by imaginisce and I did throw in a few coordinating random ribbons and a big glittery pink flower by Doodlebug. Bring on the babies! I is ready!

Word of the Year

Kim at Express the Moment and my friend [info]blue_doggie  here at LiveJournal have both been on this kick about choosing a word for the year. For them, the words balance, and adventure respectively - hold special meaning to them in 2009.

I have doing a lot of thought about it - and aside from being a really fun idea I really saw this idea as a challenge. Everybody it seems, has something that they want to try to work on and improve on in the future. For me, I wanted to choose a word that represents something that I have, and something that I desire more of.

It was then, that a word came to me, in the form of music actually. Serenity by Godsmack is one of those rock ballads that has always stuck me with it's beauty. I need Serenity. . .

Inner peace and calm is something that I will strive for in the coming year. It is a goal that I have anyway - to keep a more even temper and not have those "freak out" moments that I feel bad about later. I think that there are a lot of things that contribute to my stress level. . . being a mom and having a full time job and dealing with every day family problems and lots of other challenges bring stress. My goal is to use the means that I have and find new, healthy ways to deal with this stress and achieve a new, more serene outlook on life. I would like to continue to learn and meditate and maybe even get into something fun like yoga. . . I will also continue to do my scrapbooking and paper crafts as a way to de-stress as it has always been a favorite outlet.

So there we have it, word of the year. What a fun idea. :)

Expressing my Expressions!

Express the Moment has these really awesome little card kits that you can buy each month. SO WORTH IT! Every month you get this collection of matching. . . STUFF. . . paper and embelishments and ribbons and stickers and and and. . . :) You get the idea. This is an awesome idea for a new scrapper, or an old scrapper like me. Ha. . . the reason why I love it is because I might never choose the things that actually come in the kit. Let me explain that. . . sometimes when I am in the scrapbook store or shopping online, I walk right past something that might be a really cute idea waiting to happen. I have my "blinders" on because maybe I am looking for one thing in particular. With the ETM kit. . . it's kinda like a box of chocolates. (*best Forrest Gump voice here) You never know what you're gonna get!

This month I got this really cute collection of teal and purple goodies and things for making cute Christmas cards. Well honestly, after fifty some odd Christmas cards, I am all Christmassed out. So I made Thank you cards instead because, you know, I do need those for all of the great Christmas gifts we got!

Lemme just add another story here from the archives. When I was in the 10th grade, my Aunt Ginger got married in Atlanta. I was so excited because not only did we get to GO to the wedding, I got to be in her line. I remember all of the wedding primping and fluffing and going to try on the bridesmades' dresses. The dress wasn't that hideous at all. But I remember my mom's reaction well. Her colors are teal and purple??? O.o

Yes, mom really went. . . O.o. . . way back in the 80's.

To this day, my Aunt and I probably still share a love of teal and purple. When I got my ETM Expressions kit I had to have a little *squee moment because of the colors alone. Here's my this month's cards. . . and thanks ETM ladies for the awesome picks!!!

Woot for day off!

I worked nights over the weekend. It's not so bad, really. Sunday I got home by 8am and had a nice delicious nap :) Did you ever take a nap and wake up kind of slowly with an idea in your head that you just HAVE to get up and create? Yeah, that happens a lot here. . .

One of my goals for 2009 is to be more ORGANIZED. Not just with my scrap stuff, but with everything. . . clothes, shoes, toys, the whole house is gonna get reorganized this year. But let's start with the simple things shall we? I imagine having a whole basket full of cards that are created and ready to go so that. . . when someone's birthday or occasion pops up, I have cards ready to go and mail in a jiffy! What better occasion to start with than BIRTHDAYS. :}

I feel like I just have to share one of my new favorite brands this year, Imaginisce. I am just loving their patterned paper and cute little matching embelishments, especially the clear stamps. Stamping is another goal for 2009, but that's a whole 'nother story :) Anyway, Imaginisce. Love it! And I didn't use my Stickles on this one although the temptation was great.

I used purple cardstock for the background and words, happy b-day pattererned paper by Imaginisce, The gift is a stamp that I colored with watercolor pencils. The "stamp" was cut using Cricut along with the sentiment. And I used a few Imaginisce chipboard stickers too. They are called "Chip, chip, hooray!" How freaking cute is that. The polka-dot pink stripe is actually the back side of the birthday paper. The paper itself has a lot of cute places that are glittered, but I added some glitter of my own to the gift ribbon, and I used a gliter gel pen to outline the stamp and add some bling to the words.

That's all for now - I have a lot on the menu for today and then I do have to go back to work tomorrow night but soon there will be WEEKEND OFF and lots of fun things to share. :) Say it with me now. . . WOOOOOT!

Challenge!

I decided to participate in a challenge thrown by [info]angry_amy

The challenge was to make a page using the following items:

1 die cut or punch
2 photos
3 different cardstock
4 different patterned paper
5 buttons
6 bling
7 staples
8 inches ribbon
9 stamps
10 brads

And here it is. . . it took me all morning but it was fabulous therapy. Besides, it is a really crappy day outside and I didn't want to go ANYWHERE. :)

Here is a layout that I finished yesterday with some of my favorite photos of 2008. I used some rub-ons by daisyd's that I just fell in love with and a few chipboard embelishments and I used the last of my blue ribbon that I liked so much. I also added a few random plastic flowers with brads by Making Memories. The background pattern paper is by k&i.

Back To Business

The holidays are over and I finally have found some time to put aside the baking and the wrapping and the shopping and get back to business as usual! I got some fun new scrap things for Christmas. Of course that means that now I have to reorganize again. . . ha ha . . . but that can wait. The weather outside is truly dreadful and I am staying in to make a few pages before I have to go work tonight!!!
Pretty soon I have more days off - I simply can't wait to get to work on some really fun things. I have so many fun ideas. . .

I made this page today using some paper from a new pack that I got for Christmas, it's called the Rockstar pack by DCWV. I got it to make some cute Guitar Hero pages but I thought that I would give it a little practice by making a few pages about the concert  that Sarah and Nicolle and I went to last summer. He he.

The cool thing about the Rockstar pack is that it perfectly compliments the Indie Art Cricut cartridge . . . in fact it looks like they could have been designed by the very same people! I am loving how these products work together.

detial pics )</div>

And also, a project that I made for Dr. Taylor's office - I used Photoshop to alter one of the photos that I took of him and the office staff. I made it look like a USA Today page and stuck it to a 12x12x1 canvas and added some Cricut trees - the outdoor theme will match the office decor (the waiting area is full of fishing memorabilia and themed stuff) and a lot of the little details on the news page are inside jokes that you mostly had to "be there" for - Dr. Taylor and the office staff loved this gift and it was quick and easy to put together. :)

Oh, happy day!

Work was full to the gills last night.  At midnight, we needed to flex down. Our new staffing matrix calls for only 7 on a full unit, and 9 were scheduled. I went home on call. WOOT FOR ON CALL!!!!!!

SO. . . I came home and got to play with my BRAND NEW EXPRESSIONS KIT! This is a kit that I get every month from Express the Moment which used to be a local scrapbook store. The store went under, but the owner still sells these kits online.  The kits are awesome!!! For $15 a month, they send you all this stuff to make cards. The stuff is adorable, and there is WAY more stuff than you need to make just a few cards. . . and you can use what's left over to make. . . whatever you want! This month's kit was just full of stuff by Cosmo Cricket. I tried my hand at some chipboard letters and I sat at the kitchen table until 3am in glittery, gluey, stampy, papery on-call bliss. I stickled everything. I have been on a huge stickle kick. Whoever invented stickles needs the nobel peace prize. Glitter. In the glue. Perfect.

And now, since I got to be on call, I can stay up for a little bit and finish some other projects that I am needing to finish badly.
